Beagle
From Darwin's epic voyage to the British mission to Mars

Colin Pillinger

English space scientist Colin Pillinger amazed NASA and the world by planning and organizing the British MArs mission literally on a shoe-string budget. The British probe BEAGLE takes its name from the famous ship Beagle that took Darwin on his journeys to the Galapagos Islands and onto his theory of evolution. Beagle reached the red planet successfully but soon after signal was lost with the probe and the mission ended prematurely.

Despite the disappointing failure,  and while the american rovers Spirit and Opportunity ceaselessly sent back data from Mars, Colin Pillinger proved that Mars is not beyond reach even for small nations. Accompanied by many photos, historical references and amazing facts Colin Pillinger explains why Mars is so important to us and continues to attract us.
